Caroline SharkeyWhy use paint and paper when you can make magic happen with fabric and thread? I love our beautiful country, and am constantly amazed by the inspiration our flora, fauna and landscape provide. My work can be found in public and private collections both in Australia and overseas, and for over 14 years I was part of the Artist in Residency program at Ayers Rock Resort at Uluru in the Northern Territory. While I'm happiest at home in my studio The Sharkey Shed, I love giving back to our fabulous community, as well as contributing to Australian quilting and textile art publications, I regularly teach my techniques in workshops and host regular retreats in my home town at Urunga NSW and the bi-annual Retreat "Sewing Up a Storm in the Desert" at Uluru. As a teacher, I love seeing students thrive and make their own discoveries and always welcome students to my renowned retreats across Australia. I thank BERNINA Australia for the continued Sponsorship of the Uluru Retreat and the amazing Art Skinned BERNINA Machines each Retreat. THE DIGITAL CLOTH
This Emagazine is a way of sharing what I am up to, What’s going on, Who is out there and paying forward all the wonderful opportunities I have been given and gone after these past 20 odd years. Everyday I am inspired by what is around me, every time I walk into a classroom to teach or an event I am inspired by those around me, watching people champion their own styles and art practices is so exciting and if we here can help facilitate and share some of the stories that’s our aim. I want this textile, fabric, quilting, art, sewing and teaching industry to do well, So creating this Emagazine is my way of connecting and to be able to share and champion this industry as best I can. I hope to connect with you soon.... Caroline.
